Today is the 496th Aniversary of the monk Martin Luther posting his 95 Theses, marking the beginning of Protestantism and marking the end of Christendom under the Roman Catholic Church.
There seems to be something inevitable about Martin Luther’s defiance. The monolithic Catholic Church would have been challenged eventually by someone, if not Martin Luther. I think this holds for most important historical events; they can’t be stopped. They will manifest eventually. What historical events seem inevitable in the near future?
Martin Luther challenged the church as it was becoming more open, which seems to show that societies experience upheavals as a result of becoming freer, rather than revolting as they become more oppressive.
