Stickers Aren’t Just for 3rd Graders

My hard hat and boots

Back when you were in 3rd grade, you looked forward to that sticker that for doing a good job on a homework assignment. When I was homeschooled as a kid, getting to pick a sticker from the sticker box made my week.

Out in the oilfield, stickers are still in high demand. It’s funny to see burly guys go crazy for them. It’s a little like collecting baseball cards or anything else, just a fun hobby. Also, a hard hat full of stickers makes you look seasoned and can get you some extra respect.

Everybody likes a brand name sticker from one of the big players, like Nabors Drilling or Halliburton. Smaller companies try to come up with cool logos to make thier stickers stand out, depictions of skulls and curvy women being popular.

My hard hat has a pretty good collection:
Patterson UTI Drilling
Cactus Wellhead
General Well Services
Heimlich and Payne Drilling
Wild Well Control
Baker Hughes
Rocky Mountain Pressure Services
Unit Drilling
National Oilwell Varco

In the oilfield I’ve found the fastest way to get on someone’s goodside is to give them some gloves (I go through 3-4 pairs per 14 hour job) and stickers!
