Welcome to Sven’s Bakken Blog

Hello! My name is Sven. I moved to Williston, North Dakota in Feburary 2013 to work in the booming Bakken Oil Formation. Hopefully this blog can be a resource for other people  who are looking to come out here. I also like to talk about politics, travel and culture, so look for those posts as well. Thanks for reading.

I’m currently on a rig owned by Trinidad, in the vicinity of Tioga, North Dakota. It was snowy and windy this morning, but now the sun is shining. We have 10,000 feet of casing to run. Hopefully we get done by 10 PM. I did a job on a workover rig in Montana yesterday, and only had 3 hours before coming out on this job. Fortunately, the rig crew wasn’t ready for us when we got here at 11 last night, so we caught a few hours of sleep in our work trucks. Between the drive time, waiting, and actually casing , these jobs average 20-24 hours.
